The celebration of Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC-Legon) after winning the 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) took an unexpected turn when businessman and old student Dr Ernest Ofori Sarpong arrived with a luxury surprise for the newly crowned champions.
Shortly after PRESEC-Legon secured victory at the 2026 NSMQ grand finale, Dr Ofori Sarpong showed up at the Premier Domes at the University of Ghana, Legon, where the competition’s final had taken place on Thursday, September 10, 2026.
The businessman, who is himself an alumnus of PRESEC-Legon, and President of Old Boys chose an extravagant way to celebrate the students’ achievement by offering them a ride in his 2026 Rolls-Royce.
The sight of the victorious students getting into the high-end vehicle quickly became one of the most talked-about moments following the competition, turning what had already been an emotional academic triumph into an unusually glamorous celebration.
For the students, the moment offered a sharp contrast to the intense hours they had spent battling some of Ghana’s strongest academic institutions on the NSMQ stage.
Instead of leaving the venue like ordinary students after receiving their trophy, the champions were treated to a ride in one of the world’s most recognisable luxury automobiles.
The luxury celebration came after PRESEC-Legon successfully navigated a fiercely contested grand finale involving two other decorated schools—St Augustine’s College (AUGUSCO) and Accra Academy.
The three schools faced a demanding series of science and mathematics questions at the University of Ghana’s Premier Domes, with each institution fighting for the coveted NSMQ championship.
When the final scores were announced, PRESEC-Legon emerged as winners, adding yet another title to an already remarkable record in the history of the competition.
The victory was met with jubilant celebrations from students, old boys, supporters and other members of the PRESEC community.
