Police Kill NPP Bono East Regional Chairman’s Brother

By Daniel Bampoe

A wave of anger and confusion has swept through Techiman in the Bono East Region following a late-night police operation that resulted in the fatal shooting of Seidu Bakari, the younger brother of the Bono East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ibrahim Baba Bukari.

The deadly incident occurred around 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2025, when police officers reportedly stormed Chairman Bukari’s private residence in what remains an unexplained and unannounced raid.

A Shocking Scene and Unanswered Questions

According to Chairman Bukari, Seidu Bakari, aged 36, was inside the house with two other individuals when police operatives burst into the home.

He insists there was no confrontation or provocation that could have warranted the shooting.

“This was an unprovoked attack. Seidu was in the house with two others when the police came. I still don’t understand why they would carry out such an operation at my residence,” Bukari said during an emotional interview.

The NPP Regional Chairman, visibly shaken, went further to suggest that the operation may have had political motivations, noting that he fears for his own safety in the wake of his brother’s death.

“I strongly suspect foul play and political machinations behind this. I fear for my life because if they can do this to my brother inside my own house, then my life is equally in danger,” he added.

Community in Mourning

Residents of Techiman have expressed outrage over the incident, describing it as a gross abuse of power by the police.

Many have joined the family in demanding an immediate and independent investigation to unravel the circumstances that led to the use of lethal force.

The body of Seidu Bakari has since been deposited at the morgue, pending autopsy and further investigations.

The community remains in mourning, with party supporters and local residents holding vigils and seeking answers.

As of Saturday morning, the Ghana Police Service has not issued an official statement regarding the raid or the shooting.

There has been no public clarification on what prompted the operation, who authorized it, or why force was used at a private residence.

The silence has only fueled speculation and deepened the public’s mistrust.
