The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has celebrated one of its oldest and most loyal members in the Volta Region, Clemence Kwasi Boadzo Asempapa of Abutia in the Ho West Constituency, who has turned 100 years old.

The centenarian, widely regarded within the party as one of the pioneering and fearless NPP supporters in the Volta Region, was honoured during a thanksgiving service and family celebration held at the Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Church at Abutia Teti on Sunday.

Asempapa is the uncle of the prominent Ohene political family of Abutia, known within the NPP for personalities such as former Minister of State and veteran journalist Elizabeth Ohene and respected medical practitioner Dr. Sammy Ohene.

The event attracted top party figures including former National Chairman of the NPP, Peter Mac Manu, and former Presidential Advisor on Health, Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare, who joined constituency executives, party faithful and family members to celebrate the remarkable milestone.

Members of the Ho West Constituency branch of the NPP, led by constituency executives, participated fully in the church service before joining a jubilant gathering at the celebrant’s residence where songs, party chants and tributes filled the atmosphere.

As part of the celebration, the Ho West Constituency Women’s Organiser, who hails from Abutia, presented a citation and donation to Asempapa in recognition of his loyalty and sacrifices to the party over the years.

Party faithful described Asempapa as a political symbol of courage and commitment, especially during periods when openly identifying with the NPP in parts of the Volta Region was considered politically unpopular and socially risky.

According to members of the party, Asempapa remained openly devoted to the NPP from its formative years and was known in his hometown as one of the few individuals who boldly wore party paraphernalia at a time when many supporters preferred to keep their political affiliation private.

The celebration also reflected what many attendees described as a significant political shift in the area over the years. Unlike the difficult early days of the party in the region, the gathering saw local NPP members openly singing the party anthem alongside national figures, while the 100-year-old celebrant proudly wore an NPP scarf to loud cheers from supporters.

Speaking at the ceremony, Peter Mac Manu and Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare both made cash donations and praised the centenarian for his unwavering dedication to the party.

They noted that the NPP remained appreciative of loyal grassroots members whose sacrifices helped sustain the party during challenging political periods.

The two senior party figures said their presence at the event was meant to demonstrate that the NPP values commitment, loyalty and the contributions of early members who stood by the party through difficult times.

A visibly emotional and cheerful Asempapa expressed gratitude to the party leadership, family and supporters for the honour done him as he marked his 100th birthday in the company of loved ones and fellow party faithful.
