A 24-year-old Pragya rider, Bernard Kyere, was shot dead by unknown assailants in the early hours of Saturday, September 14, 2025, at Sofokyere, a suburb of Berekum in the Bono Region.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents and local authorities expressing concern over the rising violence.

According to eyewitnesses, Bernard was picked up by his attackers with his tricycle and taken to a destination where he was shot and killed.
The body was discovered with a severe head injury, and the victim’s tricycle was still on the scene.
The police were informed, and investigations are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.
Community Reaction
The Chairman of the Auto Rickshaw Riders at the Biadan Station, Nana Yusuf Bakari, confirmed the incident and expressed grave concerns over the escalating violence.
This is the third such attack in the area, and Bakari warned that if the situation persists, Pragya riders may suspend operations at Sofokyere, especially at night, to protect their safety.
Victim’s Family
Bernard’s father, Seth Kyere, expressed shock at his son’s death, recounting that Bernard had received a phone call around 8 p.m. on Friday and left with his tricycle for what he assumed were his usual night rounds.
The family is calling for thorough investigations and justice for Bernard’s killing.
Investigation And Aftermath
The police have deposited Bernard’s body at the Holy Family Catholic Hospital morgue while investigations continue.
