Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has been enstooled as the Gyaasehen of the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Traditional Area, in recognition of her contributions to education, national development, and her longstanding ties to the Central Region.

The honour was conferred on her during the annual Nyeyi Afahye Festival of the people of Komenda, where she served as the Special Guest of Honour.

The festival, celebrated to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the people, also serves as a platform to unite indigenes and highlight the developmental needs of the community.

The Vice President’s enstoolment was performed by Okatakyi Komeh VIII, Paramount Chief of Komenda, together with the Komenda Traditional Council.

As Gyaasehen, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang will be accorded a ceremonial role within the traditional hierarchy, reflecting cultural appreciation and political symbolism.

In her address, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang expressed deep humility over the recognition, describing it as “deeply personal” and reaffirming her connection to the people of Komenda and the Central Region.

She extended her profound gratitude to the chiefs, elders, and people for the trust and honour bestowed on her.

The Vice President used the occasion to call for decency and civility in Ghana’s political environment, stressing that leaders and citizens alike must prioritize unity and collective progress over partisan divisions.

“We must all work together to move Ghana forward,” she urged.

Touching on development, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang highlighted the completion of the Komenda Night Market, a project she said would transform local trading by providing a dignified and secure space for market women and traders.

The facility, she noted, represents the government’s commitment to improving the living standards of ordinary Ghanaians.

The Vice President further encouraged the people of Komenda and the Central Region to continue supporting the government’s programmes, assuring them that efforts are underway to restore Ghana to a position of dignity and prosperity.

The Nyeyi Afahye Festival, one of the most significant traditional celebrations in the Komenda area, has over the years attracted dignitaries, cultural enthusiasts, and community members from far and near.

This year’s event, marked by pomp and cultural pageantry, was made more historic by the enstoolment of Ghana’s first female Vice President into the traditional leadership structure of her home region.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s elevation as Gyaasehen adds to her growing profile as not only a political leader but also a custodian of culture, bridging the gap between governance and tradition in Ghana.
