Regina Daniels Submits To Drug Test As Public Feud With Senator Nwoko Deepens

Nollywood actress Regina Daniels has taken a decisive step amid months of controversy surrounding allegations of substance abuse, voluntarily presenting herself for a drug test at a hospital, a move she documented and shared publicly on social media on January 7, 2026.

The development comes against the backdrop of an increasingly bitter and public breakdown of her marriage to billionaire businessman and politician Senator Ned Nwoko.

In a short video posted on Instagram, Regina announced her presence at the hospital, telling followers she was about to undergo a drug screening.

The decision follows nearly three months of public accusations and counter-accusations between the actress and her estranged husband, a dispute that has spilled across social media platforms and mainstream news outlets.

Background

The controversy began in October 2025, when Regina Daniels accused Senator Nwoko of domestic violence, emotional abuse, and manipulation during their marriage.

Nwoko publicly denied the claims and, in response, alleged that the actress struggled with substance abuse, asserting that he possessed medical records to support his position.

The situation escalated further when Laila Charani, one of Nwoko’s other wives, entered the public discourse, alleging that Regina had introduced her to drugs during their time in the same household.

These claims fueled intense online debate and speculation, further polarising public opinion.

Shortly afterward, an alleged medical report surfaced online, purportedly from Serenity Royale Hospital, indicating toxic levels of substances including marijuana, morphine, opiates, cocaine, and alcohol in Regina’s system.

The hospital, however, swiftly distanced itself from the document, issuing a statement denying responsibility for the leak and urging the public to disregard the circulating report, describing it as unauthorised.

New Test, Old Disputes

Regina’s latest drug test has been interpreted by supporters as an attempt to clear her name.

However, Senator Nwoko’s communication team issued a strongly worded statement cautioning against what it described as “performative accountability.”

According to the statement, a single drug test conducted at a time of one’s choosing does not invalidate earlier findings allegedly produced by two independent medical centres in Nigeria and South Africa.

The statement further argued that temporary abstinence should not be confused with sobriety, stressing that substance-related recovery requires sustained professional intervention rather than public demonstrations.

It also addressed the substance MDMA (commonly known as Molly), warning against attempts to minimise its seriousness by rebranding or casual language, insisting that its chemical composition and risks remain unchanged.

Legal And Custody Dimensions

Adding a legal dimension to the controversy, Nwoko’s team referenced a previous court ruling which, according to them, dismissed unsubstantiated human rights abuse claims and granted custody in favour of the senator.

The statement claimed the court ordered Regina Daniels to undergo supervised therapy with evidence of compliance, an issue the team says was handled discreetly to protect her privacy and preserve her relationship with her children.

They further indicated that any drug test results—whether conducted locally or abroad—would ultimately be subject to court scrutiny, with the possibility of court-appointed laboratories being mandated to independently verify claims.
