Popular Kumawood actor and television personality Akwasi Boadi popularly called Akrobeto has sparked a national conversation on education and skills development after revealing how his son abandoned formal schooling to pursue a career in phone repairs.
Speaking in an interview on Royal TV, the veteran actor shared a deeply personal account of how his third-born struggled academically and ultimately found success through apprenticeship rather than the traditional academic route.
Academic Struggles Lead To Tough Decision
According to Akrobeto, his son had always aspired to attend university, largely influenced by his siblings—one studying abroad and another in a local university.
However, his academic performance did not match his ambitions.
The actor disclosed that his son failed remedial examinations three times, forcing the family to reconsider his educational path.
Despite efforts to support him academically, it became clear that continuing formal education was not yielding results.
Turning Point Through Mentorship
Faced with this challenge, Akrobeto sought guidance from the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo, widely known as Kantanka.
Following their meeting, the young man had a change of perspective and opted to pursue a vocational path instead. He requested his father’s support to enroll in a phone repair apprenticeship, marking a turning point in his life.
Apprenticeship And Rapid Independence
Akrobeto subsequently enrolled his son at China House in Kumasi to learn phone repairs, providing financial support by renting a workspace and giving him a weekly allowance of GH¢100.
Within just eight months, the young man had mastered the trade and asked his father to stop sending money, having become financially independent through his skills.
Public Reactions
The story has triggered mixed reactions on social media, with many praising the decision as a practical alternative to formal education, especially in a job market where skills are increasingly valued.
