Shatta Wale Opens Up On Family, Wealth

By Daniel Bampoe

Ghanaian dancehall artist Shatta Wale has offered a candid look into his personal life, using a recent TikTok Live session to challenge long-held perceptions about his upbringing while highlighting his deep sense of responsibility toward his parents.

The viral interaction, which quickly drew attention across social media, revealed a more reflective side of the often outspoken performer.

During the session, Shatta Wale underscored his belief that honouring one’s parents goes beyond verbal appreciation, insisting it must be demonstrated through tangible actions. As evidence of this conviction, he disclosed that he has purchased four cars for his mother over the years and intends to add another soon.

His comments painted a picture of ongoing gratitude, particularly toward the woman he credits for playing a central role in his upbringing and personal development.

Turning to his father, Charles Nii Armah Mensah Snr., the musician adopted a more measured tone, describing him as a man already fulfilled in life.

According to Shatta Wale, finding a gift that truly matches his father’s stature remains a challenge. Nonetheless, he revealed that he presented him with a Toyota Land Cruiser as a symbolic gesture of respect and appreciation.

Beyond material expressions, the award-winning artist also addressed public narratives suggesting he rose from extreme hardship.

He firmly rejected that characterisation, clarifying that although he faced challenges, he was raised in a stable and supportive environment. Emphasising the role of parental guidance—particularly from his father—he stated that he was “not born poor,” a foundation he believes significantly contributed to his success.
