The Member of Parliament for Suhum, Frank Asiedu Bekoe, popularly known as “Protozoa,” has begun implementing one of the key pillars of his 2024 election campaign with the launch of a major constituency-wide empowerment programme aimed at improving economic opportunities for women, youth, farmers, traders and other vulnerable groups.
The initiative, known as the Suhum Constituency Empowerment Initiative, was officially launched on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at the Church of Pentecost L.A. Nyarko Memorial Sanctuary in Suhum.
The programme is being implemented through a strategic partnership between the MP, VisionFund Ghana and YPS-Africa, to promote entrepreneurship, financial inclusion and sustainable livelihoods across the constituency.
The launch marks a significant milestone in the MP’s efforts to translate campaign commitments into practical interventions.
During the 2024 general election campaign, Frank Asiedu Bekoe consistently emphasized the need for economic empowerment as a means of addressing unemployment, poverty, and financial exclusion within the constituency.
He pledged to facilitate access to financial support, business development opportunities, and skills enhancement programmes to enable residents to become self-reliant and economically productive.
The partnership with VisionFund Ghana is expected to play a central role in achieving these objectives. VisionFund Ghana, a microfinance institution affiliated with World Vision International, has established a reputation for supporting poor and vulnerable families through a range of financial and social intervention programmes.
Over the years, the organization has provided access to credit facilities, savings products and community development initiatives aimed at improving household incomes and strengthening local economies.
The launch event attracted residents from various communities within the constituency, as well as stakeholders interested in understanding the opportunities available under the programme.
The Participants were introduced to a wide range of services and support packages offered through VisionFund Ghana.
These include microfinance loans for small businesses, agricultural financing for farmers, savings and investment schemes, women’s economic empowerment programmes, financial literacy and business management training, insurance products and digital financial services.
Beyond financial support, the initiative also seeks to address broader community development challenges.
Participants were informed about interventions in water, sanitation, and hygiene, disaster recovery and resilience-building programs, support for refugees and vulnerable communities, youth development initiatives, family well-being programs, and community mindset transformation projects designed to promote long-term social and economic growth.
Leading the technical presentation, the Koforidua Branch Manager of VisionFund Ghana, Mr. John Osei, provided detailed explanations of the various programmes and outlined the procedures prospective beneficiaries must follow to access support.
He emphasized the organization’s commitment to empowering communities and improving livelihoods through responsible financial services and development-oriented interventions.
The programme also featured an interactive engagement session during which participants had the opportunity to ask questions and seek clarification on issues relating to business financing, loan accessibility, entrepreneurship development, and other economic concerns affecting their livelihoods.
Many attendees welcomed the initiative and expressed optimism about its potential to create meaningful opportunities within the constituency.
Addressing the gathering virtually via Zoom, Frank Asiedu Bekoe reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the initiative benefits all residents of Suhum. He stressed that the programme is non-partisan and open to every constituent regardless of political affiliation, emphasizing that development and economic empowerment should be inclusive and accessible to all.
The MP further announced plans to extend the engagement programme to other parts of the constituency, including Suhum Zone B, Akorabo and Nankese, to ensure wider participation and awareness.
According to him, decentralizing the outreach will allow more residents to access information and benefit from the opportunities being created through the partnership.
Chairman for the occasion, Barima Ayekotse Teinor II, Chief of Ayekotse, commended Hon. Asiedu Bekoe, VisionFund Ghana and YPS-Africa for initiating what he described as a transformative programme.
He expressed confidence that the intervention would contribute significantly to reducing poverty, promoting entrepreneurship and improving living standards across the constituency.
The launch of the Suhum Constituency Empowerment Initiative is being viewed by many residents as an important step toward fulfilling campaign promises and strengthening local economic development.
