NPP Women’s Organiser Kate Gyamfua Bereaved As Mother Passes Away

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been thrown into mourning following reports that the party’s National Women’s Organiser, Kate Gyamfua, has lost her beloved mother, Obaapanin Afia Nyarko.

The sad news emerged on Monday, May 25, 2026, after reports circulated indicating that the respected matriarch had passed away at her residence in Akyem Takrowase in the Denkyembour District of the Eastern Region.

Obaapanin Afia Nyarko reportedly died in the afternoon of May 25. However, the exact cause of death and circumstances surrounding her passing have not yet been publicly disclosed.

The remains of the deceased have reportedly been deposited at a mortuary pending funeral arrangements.

Kate Gyamfua, who serves as one of the most influential figures within the NPP, has also not publicly commented on the passing of her mother.

The news has nevertheless triggered an outpouring of sympathy from party faithful, political figures and members of the public, many of whom have taken to social media to express their condolences to the grieving family.

Obaapanin Afia Nyarko was widely known within her community in Akyem Takrowase and is remembered by many as a respected elder whose passing has left relatives, friends and loved ones in deep sorrow.

The bereavement comes at a challenging time for the NPP, which has recently witnessed a number of personal losses among its members and supporters.

Several NPP sympathisers who reacted online described the loss as heartbreaking and prayed for strength and comfort for Kate Gyamfua and her family during this difficult period.

Kate Gyamfua has for years remained a prominent figure in Ghanaian politics and within the New Patriotic Party. She has played a significant role in mobilising women and grassroots supporters across the country and has been one of the party’s most visible national executives.

Her mother’s passing has therefore attracted widespread attention from both political allies and opponents, many of whom have put aside partisan differences to sympathise with her family.
