The Ghanaian diaspora community in the United States is mourning the death of George Ennin, a 53-year-old Ghanaian security guard, who was tragically stabbed to death in the Bronx, New York, on January 5, 2026.

According to official reports, the incident occurred around 2p.m. in front of 3077 Third Avenue, in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx.

Police officers, responding to an emergency call, discovered Ennin lying unconscious with multiple stab wounds.

He was immediately rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The Bronx, a borough with a long history of both vibrant immigrant communities and occasional spikes in violent crime, has seen several incidents targeting individuals in public spaces over the years.

Investigators confirmed that a 38-year-old man was arrested on January 7, 2026, in connection with the stabbing.

The suspect faces charges of murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon.

He was arraigned in court the following day, January 8, 2026, as the legal process continues.

CCTV footage from the scene revealed that Ennin attempted to evade the attack after being caught off-guard by a sudden kick from the assailant.

Witnesses reported seeing him stumble while trying to escape, ultimately succumbing to repeated knife attacks.

Ennin, a father of two daughters, was on his way to work at the time of the attack.

Neighbours and members of the local community described him as a dedicated and kind individual.

“This man was one in a million; he was a diamond in the rough. He raised two daughters single-handedly,” said Michele King, a neighbour who knew the victim well.
