By Daniel Bampoe

A suspected food poisoning outbreak has thrown W.B.M. Zion Senior High School at Akyem Old Tafo in the Eastern Region into panic after several students reportedly fell ill and were rushed to hospital for emergency medical treatment.

The affected students were transported to the Akyem Tafo Government Hospital and the Kukurantumi Community Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical attention as health authorities investigate the source of the illness.

Although the exact number of students affected has not yet been officially disclosed, information from the school indicates that many students developed symptoms believed to be consistent with food poisoning, prompting an emergency response from school authorities and health officials.

The cause of the incident has not been confirmed, but preliminary accounts from some students suggest the illness may have been linked to rice purchased from the school’s canteen.

Others, however, believe the suspected food poisoning could have originated from kenkey served in the school’s dining hall.

Authorities have cautioned that these claims remain speculative, and no food item has been officially identified as the source of the outbreak.

Officials of W.B.M. Zion Senior High School had not issued an official statement on the incident at the time of reporting.

Meanwhile, the affected students continue to receive treatment at the two health facilities, with authorities expressing optimism that they will make a full and speedy recovery.
