A final-year student of Yabram Community Day Senior High School in the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region has died in a fatal motorbike accident.
The incident occurred along the Yariga No. 2–Nkwanta Junction stretch of road and involved a tipper truck with registration number GT 3484-26.
Eyewitnesses told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the deceased and a colleague were riding a motorbike from Nkwanta Junction towards Yariga No. 2 when they attempted to overtake the truck.
They were reportedly unaware that the truck driver was also making a turn at the time. The motorbike subsequently collided with the front tyre of the truck, throwing the rider off the bike and causing his instant death.
The pillion rider sustained serious injuries to the legs and hands and was rushed to a nearby health facility, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
Simon Poamba, a passerby, said the victims attempted to overtake the truck from the passenger side, an action that proved fatal when the truck unexpectedly turned.
The Motor Traffic and Transport Division (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service in Dambai confirmed the incident to the GNA.
Corporal Zakaria Asharift said the body of the deceased had been deposited at the Worawora Government Hospital morgue, while investigations were ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident and establish liability.
The tragic death has thrown the Yabram Community Day SHS and the entire community into mourning, with school authorities and students describing the deceased as a promising student with a bright future.
