In a chilling turn of events, police in the Ashanti North Region have arrested two individuals linked to the murder of a retired headmaster, Eric Obeng Darko, formerly of Dampong Senior High School.

The suspects are Prophetess Elizabeth Darkwah, 48, and Mubarak Mohammed, 38.
Both were arrested earlier this month and arraigned before district courts in Suame and Kodie.

The gruesome incident, according to police investigations, stems from a fraudulent gold scheme that dates back to 2024.

Authorities say Prophetess Darkwah convinced the late Obeng Darko that she possessed spiritual powers capable of unearthing ancient family gold, a claim that lured the unsuspecting
educator into handing over an unspecified amount of money.

As part of the ruse, Prophetess Darkwah visited the victim at his residence in Bampenase, near Mamponteng, along with suspect Mubarak Mohammed.

Under the cover of night, they reportedly dug up 20 pieces of a yellowish substance in the presence of the victim.

She claimed the items were raw gold that required spiritual purification at her church before they could be used or sold.

However, when Obeng Darko attempted to follow up on the purification process, all efforts to reach Prophetess Darkwah proved futile.

Investigators say she deliberately avoided meeting him after taking his money and falsely staging the gold discovery.

The situation escalated tragically when Prophetess Darkwah, in an effort to cover up her scheme, allegedly conspired with Mubarak Mohammed and three other unidentified individuals to eliminate the victim.

According to the police, the victim was abducted and taken to Aboabugya.

When he attempted to escape, he was reportedly run over by a Honda Odyssey vehicle driven by Mubarak Mohammed, leading to his death.

Following their arrests on June 9 and June 17, both suspects have been remanded into police custody and are expected to reappear in court on July 4, 2025.

Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies have intensified efforts to track down the remaining three suspects who are still at large.
