The annual Kpokpoi Sprinkling as part of the Homowo festival in Teshie turned violent on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and leaving several others injured.
The victims, identified as 30-year-old Eddy Blessing and 27-year-old Patrick Maamah Martey Fio, succumbed to gunshot wounds after being rushed to LEKMA Hospital and Family Health Hospital.
According to eyewitnesses, the disturbances began during the early morning festivities when rival groups disrupted the peaceful ceremony, engaging in violent confrontations that involved stone-pelting and sporadic gunfire.
The police intervened to restore order, allowing Paramount Chief Gbetsoolo Nii Ashitey Akonfrah III to perform his traditional rites.
However, renewed clashes broke out later in the morning, escalating the situation and causing chaos at the hospitals as distraught relatives besieged the emergency units.
Investigation Underway
The Ledzokuku Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) has launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, assuring the public that those responsible will face the full rigors of the law.
The MUSEC extended condolences to the bereaved families and urged residents and traditional factions in Teshie to remain calm and support the ongoing investigations to ensure lasting peace in the community.
