The Ashanti North Regional Police Command  has secured a total of 195 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for five convicted robbers following their prosecution at the Nsuta Circuit Court.

The sentencing, delivered on April 30, 2026, was presided over by Simon Nketia Gagah, who found the accused persons guilty after they pleaded to charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery in two separate cases.

The convicts were identified as Kofi Adu, also known as K2, a 33-year-old Uber driver described as the leader of the group; Owusu Patrick, alias Ike, a 21-year-old farmer; Francis Obeng, alias Amani, a 22-year-old taxi driver; Karim Nurudeen, alias Kusheshe, a 21-year-old vulcanizer; and Akwasi Agyei, alias Show Boy, a 22-year-old taxi driver.

Two other suspects, identified only as Edem and Okra, remain at large and are being pursued by police.

According to details presented in court, the accused persons were involved in coordinated robbery activities, leading to their arrest and subsequent prosecution by the Ghana Police Service.

During proceedings, all five pleaded guilty, paving the way for their conviction and sentencing.

In handing down the sentences, the court imposed varying prison terms based on individual involvement and criminal history.

The ringleader, Kofi Adu, received 25 years’ imprisonment on both counts in the first case and 50 years on both counts in the second case.

Owusu Patrick was sentenced to 20 years on both counts in the first case and 40 years on both counts in the second case.

The remaining three convicts—Francis Obeng, Karim Nurudeen, and Akwasi Agyei—were each sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment on both counts across the two cases. The court noted that enhanced sentences were applied to the first and second accused persons due to their status as repeat offenders.

All sentences are to run concurrently, meaning each convict will serve the longest single sentence imposed rather than the cumulative total of all counts.

The case forms part of ongoing efforts by the Ashanti North Regional Police Command to clamp down on robbery and related violent crimes in the region.
