The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) in the Greater Accra Region has taken a significant step towards improving healthcare delivery by providing intensive training to its Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) officers.
The three-day capacity-building workshop, organized by the Claims and Processing Centre (CPC) Directorate, aimed to enhance the officers’ skills in key areas such as claims lifecycle, digital tools, audits, field verification, data collection and analysis, ethics, communication, and reporting.
Empowering M&E Officers
The training was designed to equip M&E officers with the skills and knowledge necessary to collect and analyze data effectively, ensuring that the NHIA’s service delivery goals are met.
According to participants, the training was timely and essential, as they serve as the “eyes and ears” of the Authority in the field.
One officer noted that the skills gained will help ensure accurate data, leading to better decisions and faster service for members.
Data-Driven Decision Making
The Acting Greater Accra Regional Director of NHIA, Samuel Sowah Oblejumah, emphasized the strategic importance of the exercise, stating that the objective is to move beyond just gathering numbers.
“We want our M&E officers to tell a story with the data, a story that helps us understand what is working and what isn’t, so we can continuously improve the quality of care for our members,” he explained.
Technical Support
Key technical support was provided by Oforiwaa Portuphy, Deputy Director of CPC-Accra, and her team, who guided the officers through practical exercises aimed at aligning data management with the Authority’s service delivery goals.
The training forms part of the Claims and Processing Directorate’s broader strategy to deploy data as a powerful tool for institutional transformation.
By equipping staff with advanced hands-on skills, the NHIA hopes to build a more responsive and effective health insurance system that ensures every cedi spent translates into measurable benefits for the public.
