MoH Disburses Salaries To 6,000 Newly Recruited Nurses

By Daniel Bampoe

The Ministry of Health (MoH) has officially confirmed that salaries have been paid to more than 6,000 of the 13,500 nurses recently recruited across Ghana.

The move addresses longstanding concerns over delays in remuneration for newly employed health professionals and signals a renewed commitment to timely staff welfare.

According to Tony Goodman, Head of Health Training Institutions and spokesperson for the Ministry, the payment covers the full cohort of nurses recruited this year.

Tony Goodman assured the public that all remaining administrative matters related to the recruitment process are being actively resolved, emphasizing that the Ministry is prioritizing fairness and transparency in the deployment of healthcare workers.

The recent recruitment drive, part of the government’s broader strategy to bridge gaps in healthcare delivery, also included the posting of newly graduated medical officers to various duty stations nationwide.

While a majority of these officers have reported for duty, the Ministry has set a deadline of Friday, December 12, 2025, for those yet to report. This extension aims to allow sufficient time for all officers to commence work, particularly in underserved and rural communities where medical personnel shortages have historically been most acute.

Additionally, Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) have been called upon to facilitate the smooth transition of health workers by providing necessary accommodations, transport assistance, and basic amenities.

The Ministry further clarified that there will be no changes to the recent postings, reaffirming its resolve to maintain a consistent and robust health workforce capable of delivering quality healthcare services nationwide.

This initiative comes against the backdrop of the ongoing efforts to strengthen its healthcare system, particularly after challenges arising from staff shortages in both urban and rural areas.
