Bawumia Hits Ground Running

The 2024 Presidential Candidate and former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is kicking off his nationwide campaign from today, as he seeks to become the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2028 general elections.

The campaign, themed “Win with Bawumia”, is set to begin on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, and will take the former Vice President across all 276 constituencies in Ghana in a bid to connect directly with the party’s grassroots, starting from the Bono East region.

This development marks a major milestone in Dr. Bawumia’s long-anticipated bid to lead the NPP after serving two terms as Vice President under the Akufo-Addo administration.

His decision to embark on a grassroots-focused tour underscores his long-held belief that the strength of the NPP lies in its base — the polling station executives, electoral area coordinators, constituency leaders, and party elders who keep the movement alive at the local level.

According to a statement signed by the Communications Director of the Bawumia Campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the tour will provide Dr. Bawumia the opportunity to personally engage with party structures, including current and former constituency executives, former Members of Parliament, former Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), as well as patrons and council of elders.

The aim is to foster unity, build consensus, and strengthen the party’s foundation ahead of the internal primaries and the 2028 elections.

The campaign team emphasized that Dr. Bawumia intends to share his vision for Ghana’s future — one focused on economic transformation, digital innovation, and inclusive governance — while rallying the NPP behind a message of renewal and discipline.

However, in a clear show of leadership, the Bawumia Campaign is urging all supporters to maintain civility and integrity throughout the contest.

The statement cautioned against personal insults, unverified allegations, and divisive rhetoric that could damage party cohesion.

Instead, it called for an issues-based campaign centered on policy debates, competence, and performance records rather than emotional or character-driven attacks.

“We must immediately cease and desist from any form of direct or indirect insults, derogatory remarks, and personal attacks against any other aspirant, their families, or their supporters,” the statement read.

“Our focus must remain on promoting Dr. Bawumia’s vision, proven track record, and policy propositions.”

The campaign further stressed that maintaining the dignity of the NPP is paramount as the party prepares for its next chapter after the Akufo-Addo era.

“Our goal is party unity and national progress,” the release added, warning that divisive communication only weakens the NPP’s collective strength ahead of 2028.

Dr. Bawumia’s campaign team expressed confidence that when the race is judged on issues and merit, his experience as an economist, technocrat, and reformist will stand out.

His camp believes that his leadership style, rooted in innovation and inclusivity, will resonate with both delegates and the Ghanaian electorate.

The campaign concluded with a call for unity and respect among party members, encouraging all supporters to “engage with passion, but more importantly, with respect, integrity, and a focus on the issues that truly matter to the future of the NPP and Ghana.”

As the tour begins, all eyes will be on whether this call for civility can temper the political climate and if the Vice President’s direct engagement with the party base will translate into a decisive mandate.
