One person has been confirmed dead following a chaotic incident involving a swarm of bees that attacked supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Kpandai District shortly after a campaign activity on Sunday, December 14, 2025.
The incident occurred moments after the NDC concluded its campaign programme in the constituency, which has become a political hotspot ahead of the December 30 parliamentary election rerun ordered by the courts.
Confirming the incident to the media, the NDC Kpandai Constituency Secretary, Robert, said the deceased was a traditional chief from one of the communities in the district.
According to him, the chief was riding a motorbike away from the venue when he was suddenly attacked by a swarm of bees.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the unexpected bee attack caused panic among people in the area.
In an attempt to escape the swarm, the victim reportedly dismounted from his motorbike and tried to flee.
However, amid the confusion and stampede that followed, he was allegedly beaten to death.
The circumstances surrounding how the assault occurred remain unclear, and authorities have launched investigations to establish the full facts of the incident, including whether the beating was intentional or occurred accidentally during the panic.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, some residents have attributed the incident to spiritual causes, describing it as a curse linked to the tense political atmosphere in the constituency.
However, authorities are yet to comment on such claims, emphasizing that official conclusions will be based strictly on evidence gathered from ongoing investigations.
Kpandai has been under intense political focus following a Tamale High Court ruling that annulled the results of the 2024 parliamentary election, citing irregularities in the collation process.
The court subsequently ordered a rerun of the parliamentary election, which the Electoral Commission (EC) has scheduled it for Tuesday, December 30, 2025.
The EC has indicated that the rerun will involve the same candidates who contested the 2024 election, making the contest a direct continuation of the disputed poll.
