Kojo Adu Asare Chases Daddy Lumba’s Widow

Former Adentan Member of Parliament, Kojo Adu Asare, has stirred public discussion after openly declaring his admiration for Priscilla Ofori, popularly known as Odo Broni, the widow of legendary highlife musician Daddy Lumba, at a time when the nation is still coming to terms with the icon’s death.

Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, died on 26 July 2025 at the Bank Hospital in Cantonments after a prolonged illness, leaving behind a rich musical legacy that shaped Ghana’s highlife genre for decades.

His passing triggered an outpouring of grief nationwide, with tributes pouring in from musicians, politicians, business leaders and fans across generations.

It was against this backdrop of national mourning that Kojo Adu Asare, speaking in an interview on Asempa FM on 17 December 2025, disclosed that he would be open to marrying Odo Broni in the future, should she decide to remarry after completing the customary one-year widowhood rites.

The former legislator revealed that he is currently unmarried and spoke glowingly about the late musician’s widow, describing her as calm, graceful and exceptionally beautiful.

According to Adu Asare, his interest in Odo Broni is not driven by fleeting emotions or public attention but by a desire to offer companionship and support.

He stressed that any potential union would not be about having children, but rather about helping to raise her six children and contributing to the preservation and honouring of Daddy Lumba’s legacy.

“Odo Broni’s gentle nature and composure stand out to me,” he said during the interview.

“If, after her mourning period, she chooses to remarry, I believe I can be a worthy partner who will respect her past and help protect what Daddy Lumba left behind.”

His comments, however, have generated mixed reactions, particularly on social media, where some critics questioned the timing of such a declaration so soon after the musician’s burial.

Others viewed his remarks as insensitive, given the unresolved tensions within Daddy Lumba’s family following his death.

In recent months, Odo Broni has found herself at the centre of public controversy, especially amid reported disagreements with Daddy Lumba’s first wife, Akosua Serwaa, over funeral and burial arrangements.

Kojo Adu Asare used the opportunity to condemn what he described as unfair and hurtful attacks directed at Odo Broni, insisting that she deserved empathy rather than insults during her period of grief.

Daddy Lumba’s final funeral rites were held on Saturday, 13 December 2025, at Heroes Park in Kumasi.

The ceremony drew a large crowd and was attended by prominent personalities, including Nana Acheampong, Dr Osei Kwame Despite, Dr Ernest Ofori Sarpong, businessman Kennedy Agyapong (Kenpong), NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia, and Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene.

Family members present included Daddy Lumba’s children, his younger sister Faustina Fosu, Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu, and Odo Broni, who paid her last respects amid heavy security and public attention.

Notably absent were his first wife Akosua Serwaa, elder sister Ernestina Fosu, close associate Papa Shee, and some immediate family members, following a failed court attempt to stop the burial over unresolved family disputes.
