The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has once again failed to elect a Presiding Member (PM) after two consecutive rounds of voting held on Thursday, February 19, 2026, leaving the position vacant
In the first round of voting, the incumbent, Patrick Kwame Frimpong, secured 35 votes, while his sole contender, Ernest Baffour Ofori, obtained 24 votes.

In the second round, Frimpong increased his tally slightly to 36 votes, but this remained short of the required threshold. Ofori received 23 votes in the second round.
Under Section 27 of the Local Governance Act (Act 936), a Presiding Member must be elected by at least two-thirds of the Assembly’s membership. With 66 members in the Assembly, a candidate must obtain a minimum of 44 votes to be declared elected.
The election process was further complicated when two other aspirants, Isham Alhassan and Kwame Agyemang, withdrew their nominations prior to the voting, leaving only Frimpong and Ofori in contention.
However, as the law stipulates, the Assembly is expected to reconvene within the next 10 days to hold another election to fill the leadership role.
