The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into the death of a senior police officer whose body was discovered at his residence in Akweteyman in Accra.
The deceased officer has been identified as Rockson Gyasi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) who was stationed at Tsito in the Volta Region.
According to preliminary reports, DSP Gyasi had travelled to Accra on March 10, 2026, to spend time with his family.
The discovery was made in the early hours of March 13 by his wife, Mavis Boateng, who alerted officers from the Tesano Divisional Police Command at approximately 5:46 a.m.
Police reports indicate that Mavis Boateng woke up around 5:00 a.m. and found her husband lying motionless on the kitchen floor in a pool of blood. Officers who arrived at the scene found the officer lying on his back with visible injuries on both cheeks.
Investigators also recovered the officer’s service pistol, which was found placed on a kitchen stool near the body.
As part of the ongoing investigation, authorities have retrieved digital messages believed to have been sent by the officer to his wife on the day he arrived in Accra.
According to investigators, the messages suggested that he was “going back to where he came from,” a statement that police are examining closely as they attempt to establish the events that preceded his death.

Crime scene experts from the Police Headquarters were subsequently dispatched to process the scene. They collected evidence including the firearm and digital records for further forensic examination.
The body of DSP Gyasi has since been transported to the Police Hospital Accra mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the discharge of the weapon and the events that led to the officer’s death.
