The Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has called on Ghanaians to embrace the true meaning of Easter by demonstrating sacrifice, generosity, and a renewed commitment to one another.
Delivering his Easter message during a podcast interaction with constituents as part of the festivities, the former Information Minister reflected on the deeper spiritual significance of the season, urging individuals and families to go beyond celebration and embody the values that Easter represents.
According to him, Easter holds three central meanings that should guide the conduct of Christians and society at large—love, sacrifice, and restoration.
He explained that the foundation of Easter is rooted in the biblical message of John 3:16, which speaks about God’s ultimate sacrifice in giving His son, Jesus Christ, for humanity. Drawing from this, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah emphasised that genuine love must be accompanied by sacrifice.
“For me, Easter stands for three things,” he said. “First is John 3:16—how God sacrificed Jesus for us. It teaches that if you truly love someone, you must be willing to sacrifice for them.”
He therefore encouraged Ghanaians to use the Easter period as an opportunity to show kindness and extend support to others, especially the less privileged.
“Let us give to one another. Let us share what we have,” he urged, noting that sacrifice is not only about material giving but also about acts of compassion and selflessness.
The MP further highlighted that the sacrifice of Jesus Christ remains the central message of Easter, reminding believers of the need to reflect on the ultimate price paid for humanity’s redemption.
“Easter is about sacrifice—giving something of yourself for the benefit of others,” he added.
Beyond sacrifice, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah pointed to restoration as a key pillar of the Easter message.
He explained that the resurrection of Christ symbolizes renewal, hope, and the opportunity for individuals to rebuild their lives and relationships.
“It is also about restoration,” he said, encouraging people to mend broken relationships, renew their faith, and seek positive change in their personal lives.
He urged his constituents and Ghanaians at large to take time during the Easter season to reflect on these values and incorporate them into their daily lives.
The message comes at a time when many communities across Ghana are marking Easter with religious observances, family gatherings, and social activities. For the Ofoase-Ayirebi MP, however, the significance of the season goes beyond festivities, serving as a reminder of the enduring principles of love, sacrifice, and renewal.
However, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah encouraged all to not only celebrate Easter but to live its message, stressing that a society built on sacrifice and compassion would be stronger and more united.
