The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced the reconstitution of its Standing and Sector Committees as part of efforts to reorganize its internal structures, strengthen policy direction, and reposition the party for future political and governance responsibilities following its defeat in the 2024 general elections.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee and National Council held on Thursday, May 7, 2026.
According to a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the committees were constituted in accordance with provisions under the party’s constitution, particularly the articles governing standing and sectoral committees.
The latest move forms part of broader efforts by the NPP leadership to consolidate the party’s structures after months of internal consultations, post-election reviews, and renewed calls for reorganization within the party hierarchy.
Since transitioning into opposition after the 2024 polls, the party has embarked on several strategic engagements aimed at rebuilding grassroots confidence, sharpening its communication machinery, and preparing a new policy direction ahead of future elections.
Under the newly constituted Standing Committees, former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited, Fred Oware, was appointed Chairman of the Finance Committee, with Dr. Charles Dwamena serving as Secretary.
Other members of the committee include former Chief of Staff, Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, Nana Adwoa Dokua, William Oppong-Bio, Hon. Irene Naa Torshie Addo, Hon. Abena Osei Asare, Ambassador Edward Boateng, Joseph Ampomah Bosompem, Adelaide Ahwireng, and Alhassan Yakubu Tali.
The Electoral Affairs Committee is chaired by former Deputy Local Government Minister, Hon. Osei Bonsu Amoah, while Evans Nimako serves as Secretary.
The committee includes notable party figures such as Peter Mac Manu, Henry Nana Boakye, Hon. Samuel Atta Akyea, former Vice Presidential Candidate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Hon. Patrick Yaw Boamah, Hon. Kwame Anyimadu Antwi, Hon. Ursula Gifty Owusu-Ekuful, Hon. Martin Agyei-Mensah Korsah, Hon. Ida Adjoa Asiedu, Gary Nimako Marfo, Sam Ellis, Dr. Augustine Blay, Felicia Tetteh, and Vincent Ofori.
For the Disciplinary Committee, former Roads and Highways Minister Hon. Kwasi Amoako Atta was named Chairman, with Elizabeth Utuka as Secretary. Other members include Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, Diana Asonaba Dapaah, Hon. Salam Ama Appianimaa Damata, Kwame Osei-Prempeh, Makafui Kofi Woanya, and Ing. Kwesi Abeasi.
The Policy Committee will be chaired by former Information Minister Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, assisted by Dr. Kwasi Nyame-Baafi as Secretary.
Members include Dr. Antoinnette Tsibo-Darko, former Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Hon. Kwaku Kwarteng, former Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, Dr. Gideon Boako, Dr. Kabiru Tia Mahama, Dr. Jemima Nunoo, Dr. Mutaka Alolo, and Evron Rothchild Hughes.
The Organizational Committee will be led by former Deputy General Secretary Hon. Anthony Abayifaa Karbo, with Henry Nana Boakye serving as Secretary.
Other members are Chairman Divine Otoo Agorhom, Hon. Gloria Owusu, Hon. Mohammed Adjei-Sowah, Hon. Archibold Cobbina, Perpetual Lomokie, and Richard Gyamfi.
In the area of research and policy analysis, the party appointed Hon. Prof. Kingsley Nyarko as Chairman of the Research Committee, with Dr. Ernest Owusu-Kumi as Secretary.
Committee members include Dr. Antoinnette Tsibo-Darko, Dr. Emmanuel Marfo, Dr. Prince Hamid Armah, Dr. Richard Reichmann, Eric Okyei Baffour, Peter Oteng, Abraham Mensah Acquah, and Abdulai Abubakari-Sadik.
The Communications Committee, expected to lead the party’s public engagement and media strategy, will be chaired by former Chief Executive of the State Transport Company, Nana Akomea, with Richard Ahiagbah serving as Secretary. Members include Hon. Florence Oboshie Sai-Cofie, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Dr. Gideon Boako, Hon. George Andah, Hon. Fati Abubakar, Akwasi Agyeman, Perry Okudzeto, Yaw Adomako Baafi, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Kofi Tonto, Haruna Mohammed, Dr. Ekua Amoakoh, Kwame Baffoe Abronye, and Prince Adjei.
The party also constituted a Political Strategy Committee and appointed former National Chairman Peter Mac Manu as Chairperson.
Beyond the standing committees, the NPP announced the formation of several Sector Committees to spearhead policy engagement and stakeholder coordination across critical sectors of the economy and governance.
Under the Finance and Economy Committee, former Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam and Dr. Steve Opata were appointed Co-Chairs, while Dr. Frank Bannor and Issah Fuseini serve as spokespersons with Hamida Nuhu as Secretary.
The Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee is being led by Hon. Kwame Anyimadu Antwi and Maxwell Opoku Agyeman as Co-Chairs. Other members include Gloria Ofori Boadu, Diana Asonaba Dapaah, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, Patrick Yaw Boamah, Frank Davies, and Gary Nimako Marfo.
For Foreign Policy and Diaspora Affairs, Samuel Abu Jinapor and Ambassador Dr. Emmanuel Enos were appointed Co-Chairs, supported by Nana Asafu Adjei Ayeh, Kwame Kyeretwie-Amponsah, and Elizabeth Utuka.
The Food and Agriculture Committee will be led by Isaac Yaw Opoku and George Oduro, with Michael Kwasi Boahen Aidoo and Jennifer Oforiwaah serving as spokespersons while Dr. Sagre Bambangi acts as Secretary.
In the education sector, former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum and Dr. Prince Hamid Armah were named Co-Chairs, while Tabitha Ayilah and Dr. Kwabena Bempah Tandoh serve as spokespersons with Samuel Nii Palm as Secretary.
The Health Committee is headed by Dr. Nana Ayew Afriye and former Presidential Advisor on Health, Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare. Other members include Dr. Ezekiel Agyekum-Obeng, Dr. Ekua Amoakoh, and Kelvin Ofori Gyimah.
The Trade, Industry and SMEs Committee will be coordinated by Michael Okyere Baafi and Kosi Yankey-Ayeh, while the Energy Committee will be led by George Kwame Aboagye and Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku, with Andrew Agyapa Mercer and Collins Adomako Mensah serving as spokespersons.
The Communication Technology and Digital Economy Committee is chaired by Mathew Nyindam and Dr. Augustine Blay, while the Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Committee is led by Fred Kyei Asamoah and Barbara Oteng Gyasi.
For Environment and Natural Resources, Kwaku Ampratwum Sarpong and Ing. William Gomashie were appointed Co-Chairs, while the Housing and Urban Development Committee will be led by Martin Agyei-Mensah Korsah and Samuel Atta Akyea.
The Water and Sanitation Committee is headed by Kofi Ahenkora Marfo and Ing. Dr. Clifford Briamah, while the Roads Committee will be led by Kennedy Osei Nyarko and former presidential aspirant Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.
In the Transport sector, Sulemana Alhassan Tampuli and Akwasi Poku were appointed Co-Chairs, while the Security, Intelligence and Defence Committee will be headed by former Agriculture Minister Dr. Bryan Acheampong and Rev. John Ntim Fordjour.
The Local Government and Decentralization Committee is led by Francis Asenso-Boakye and Kwasi Ameyaw Cheremeh, while the Gender and Social Protection Committee will be coordinated by Adelaide Ntim and Dr. Susana Alo.
The Youth Development Committee is chaired by Vincent Ekow Assafuah and former National Organiser Samuel Awuku, while the Sports Committee will be led by Salam Ama Appianimaa Damata and Kwadwo Baah Agyeman.
For Employment and Jobs, Mavis Nkansah Boadu and Kennedy Ohene Agyepong were appointed Co-Chairs, with Kofi Tonto and Ellen Ama Daaku serving as spokespersons.
The party also constituted separate Religious and Chieftaincy Committees for the Christian and Muslim categories. Rev. John Ntim Fordjour and Sampson Kwaku Boafo will co-chair the Christian category, while Hon. Ben Abdallah Banda and Hajia Mohammed Rukaya will lead the Muslim category.
According to the party, the committees are expected to provide expert guidance, strengthen stakeholder engagement, deepen policy development, and support the NPP’s broader strategic direction as it seeks to reposition itself for future electoral contests and national governance.
The party further expressed confidence in the ability of all appointed chairpersons, co-chairs, secretaries, spokespersons, and committee members to discharge their responsibilities effectively in the interest of both the party and the country.
