The National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as “Nana B,” has vehemently denied reports suggesting that he was physically assaulted by former Suhum MP, Frederick Opare Ansah during the party’s nationwide “Thank You Tour.”
In a statement issued on Sunday, April 27, 2025, Nana B described the reports as “baseless and entirely false,” stressing that no confrontation occurred between himself and Opare Ansah.
“My attention has been drawn to online fabrications and media reports suggesting a confrontation between Hon. Opare Ansah and myself. I categorically state that these claims are baseless and entirely false,” Nana B stated.
He further emphasized the good character of Opare Ansah, saying, “Hon. Opare Ansah is a respected individual known for his gentle nature and would not conduct himself in such a manner.”
The rumours, which quickly went viral on social media and some online news platforms, originated from a Facebook post by Hopeson Adorye, a former NPP stalwart who is now aligned with Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change.
On Saturday evening, after the NPP’s Thank You Tour events, Hopeson Adorye posted an unverified claim suggesting that a campaign manager had slapped the party’s National Organizer.
The falsehood was later amplified through anonymous broadcasts, stating:
“Breaking News from Thank You Tour
Opare Ansah slapped Nana B. This is how low Dr. Bawumia’s boys can go and disrespect our national officers for not allowing their Mafia tactics to go through in favor of Dr. Bawumia. (Copied from another platform).”
The unsubstantiated reports appeared to suggest that tensions within the NPP, particularly between supporters of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and other factions, had escalated into physical altercations—a claim Nana B flatly rejected.
Nana B, in his rebuttal, highlighted that the NPP remains focused on uniting its ranks and preparing for future political activities.
“As a matter of fact, our focus remains on constructive efforts to strengthen our party. We are currently engaged in a thank-you tour across the country aimed at uniting the NPP and energizing its grassroots,” he explained.
He also mentioned the party’s preparations toward its upcoming “SAVE THE JUDICIARY” demonstration scheduled for May 5, 2025, in Accra—a critical move by the NPP to defend the judiciary against what they describe as growing political attacks.
The Thank You Tour itself began earlier in the week, aimed at acknowledging party supporters for their role in the 2024 general elections and reinforcing unity ahead of the crucial 2028 electoral cycle.
Despite pockets of discontent in some quarters of the party, leadership insists that the atmosphere remains largely positive.
Fredrick Opare Ansah, a long-standing figure in the NPP who served for fourth terms as MP for Suhum, in a reaction to the rumours said in a WhatsApp text:
“Don’t mind them…all our programs are recorded on video, so if I slapped someone, won’t it be captured on camera?”.
