NPP Inaugurates Standing Committees

By Daniel Bampoe

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially inaugurated its Standing Committees as part of a broader strategy to reorganize its structures, strengthen internal governance, and prepare for a return to power in the 2028 general elections.

The inauguration, announced by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, marks another significant step in the NPP’s post-2024 election rebuilding process following its transition into opposition after losing the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

According to Justin Kodua Frimpong, the committees were constituted and inaugurated in accordance with Article 10(2)(6)(a) of the amended NPP Constitution, which empowers the party’s leadership to establish institutional structures necessary for the effective administration and functioning of the party.

The inauguration follows a series of reforms and restructuring measures initiated by the party’s leadership under the direction of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council.

The move is also seen as part of efforts by the NPP’s 2028 Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and the party hierarchy to unite various factions within the party and begin early preparations for the next electoral cycle.

Under the new arrangement, seven major Standing Committees have officially commenced work.

These include the Finance Committee, Electoral Affairs Committee, National Disciplinary Committee, Political Strategy and Policy Committee, Organisation Committee, Research Committee, and Communications Committee.

Party officials believe these committees will form the backbone of the NPP’s institutional framework over the coming years, helping to coordinate party activities, strengthen internal structures, and develop policy alternatives while the party remains in opposition.

The Finance Committee is expected to focus on resource mobilization, financial management, and fundraising activities necessary to sustain the party’s operations nationwide.

The Electoral Affairs Committee chaired by veteran politician, Osei Bonsu Amioah will oversee electoral strategy, voter mobilization, constituency preparedness, and election-related planning as the party prepares for future contests.

The National Disciplinary Committee will be responsible for enforcing party discipline and addressing internal disputes, while the Political Strategy and Policy Committee will coordinate the development of policy proposals and strategic political direction for the party.

The Organisation Committee has been tasked with strengthening grassroots structures and coordinating party activities across constituencies, regions, and electoral areas.

Meanwhile, the Research Committee will support evidence-based policy formulation and political analysis, while the Communications Committee will lead public engagement, media relations, and the dissemination of the party’s messages.

Justin Kodua Frimpong emphasized that the committees are not ceremonial structures but critical organs designed to assist both the National Executive Committee and National Council in executing the party’s long-term vision.

According to him, the committees will help improve internal governance, strengthen research and policy development, enhance communication strategies, promote discipline, and ensure electoral readiness at every level of the party’s organizational structure.

The establishment of these committees comes against the backdrop of growing efforts within the NPP to regroup after its electoral setback in 2024.

Since the party moved into opposition, senior party figures have repeatedly stressed the need for introspection, reorganization, and the development of stronger policy alternatives capable of reconnecting with Ghanaian voters.
