South African rapper and television personality Molemo Maarohanye, popularly known as Jub Jub, has once again found himself at the centre of a major legal controversy after reports emerged that he had been arrested over allegations of kidnapping and discharging a firearm during an altercation involving an Uber driver.
The latest development has reignited public scrutiny of the entertainer’s troubled history with the law, adding another chapter to a career that has often been overshadowed by courtroom battles and controversy.
According to reports, the incident allegedly occurred in the early hours of Sunday, June 14, 2026, in South Africa.
Authorities claim the rapper confronted an Uber driver during a dispute reportedly linked to suspicions involving a woman believed to be his girlfriend. Investigators allege that the television host forced the driver into a vehicle before firing shots at him during the confrontation.
Fortunately, the victim reportedly escaped without sustaining any physical injuries. Following the incident, the Uber driver is said to have driven directly to a nearby police station, where he filed a formal complaint that ultimately led to Jub Jub’s arrest.
The musician, whose real name is Molemo Maarohanye, is expected to appear before the Germiston Magistrate’s Court for his initial hearing.
He reportedly faces multiple charges, including kidnapping, discharging a firearm in a municipal area, and defeating the ends of justice. Authorities have yet to publicly disclose further details regarding the ongoing investigation.
For many South Africans, the allegations are a painful reminder of the entertainer’s long and complicated relationship with the criminal justice system.
Jub Jub first rose to prominence as one of South Africa’s most recognisable hip-hop artists before successfully reinventing himself as a television presenter.
His popularity grew significantly through his role as host of the widely watched programme “Uyajola 9/9,” which exposed cases of infidelity and relationship disputes across the country.
However, his public image has repeatedly been damaged by legal battles.
One of the most significant cases occurred in 2010 when he was involved in a high-speed drag-racing crash that resulted in the deaths of four schoolchildren and left several others seriously injured.
The tragedy shocked South Africa and led to his conviction on charges including murder and attempted murder. Although portions of the conviction were later reduced by a higher court, the case remains one of the darkest moments in the entertainer’s life and career.
In recent years, Jub Jub has also faced additional allegations involving assault, attempted murder and sexual misconduct. In 2023, he became the subject of another police investigation following accusations made by a former girlfriend.
