Ghanaian football has received another major boost on the international stage after promising defender Oscar Naasei completed a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid during the current summer transfer window.
The 21-year-old centre-back has reportedly joined Real Madrid from Granada after successfully undergoing his medical examination, bringing an end to growing interest from several clubs in Spain.
The move represents a significant milestone in the young defender’s career and places him within one of the most renowned football development systems in the world.
Naasei’s transfer to Real Madrid’s Castilla side is particularly important because it gives the Ghanaian defender an opportunity to continue his development under the structure of one of Europe’s most successful clubs. Castilla serves as Real Madrid’s reserve team and has traditionally provided a pathway for talented young players seeking to establish themselves before making the step up to the senior squad.
The decision by Real Madrid to secure Naasei’s services is also an indication of the potential the Spanish giants see in the Ghanaian defender. His performances and progression at Granada attracted attention from clubs across Spain, but Real Madrid ultimately won the race for his signature.
Born in Accra, Naasei has steadily progressed through the ranks since joining Granada in 2023. His development at the Spanish club eventually saw him move closer to the first team, giving him valuable exposure to senior football in Spain.
The defender has already made two appearances for Granada in Spain’s Segunda División this season, further underlining the progress he has made since arriving at the club.
His development in Spain has also earned him recognition at international level. Naasei was included in Ghana’s squad for the friendly encounter against Mexico on May 22, before subsequently making his senior debut for the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The move to Real Madrid therefore comes at an important stage of his career.
