In a shocking turn of events, Kumasi Asante Kotoko has officially parted ways with head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, bringing an abrupt end to his second stint with the Porcupine Warriors.
The decision, announced by the club on Monday, April 21, 2025, comes in the wake of a string of disappointing performances in the Ghana Premier League.
Dr. Ogum returned to the club in July 2023 with high expectations, having guided Kotoko to league triumph in the 2021/22 season.
However, his second stint has been marred by a poor run of results, culminating in a 2-0 defeat to Nations FC on Matchday 28.
This latest loss seemed to have sealed his fate, as the club’s supporters and management alike had been growing increasingly frustrated with the team’s performances.
In a statement confirming the development, the club expressed gratitude for Dr. Ogum’s efforts during his tenure and called for calm among its supporters.
“Asante Kotoko Sporting Club has this afternoon parted company with Head Coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum. This decision was reached following constructive discussions between both parties, with a shared understanding that it is in the best interest of the club at this time,” the statement read.
“We thank Coach Ogum for his dedication and service to the club, and we wish him the very best in his future endeavors. We urge our supporters to remain calm and continue to support the club during this transition. Further updates will be communicated in due course.”
Asante Kotoko currently trails league leaders Bibiani Gold Stars by six points, with only six matches remaining in the season.
As the title race enters its final stretch, attention will now turn to who steps in to salvage the campaign and revive the team’s fading hopes of reclaiming the league title.
The club’s supporters are undoubtedly anxious to see who will take the reins and lead the team to success.
