Road Minister Inspects Afram Plains Road, Assures Completion of Bridge Project

-BY Daniel Bampoe

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Agbodza, has inspected the proposed location of a 3.6km bridge over the River Afram in the Eastern Region.

The bridge is part of a larger infrastructure project aimed at boosting agricultural productivity, stimulating economic growth, and reducing poverty in the region.

The project includes the construction of approximately 100km of road network, connecting key areas such as Mpraeso, Obomeng, Nkawkaw, Abooso, Mpaem, Kwahu Adawso, Feyiase, and Kwahu Tafo.

Background

The Afram Plains area has long been in need of infrastructure development to unlock its economic potential.

The region’s agricultural sector has been hindered by poor road conditions, making it difficult for farmers to transport their produce to markets.

The construction of the bridge and road network is expected to enhance economic development, foster regional integration, and generate income through agriculture and other sectors.

Minister’s Assurance

During his inspection tour, Agbodza emphasized that the bridge will connect the Eastern, Ashanti, and Oti regions strategically, promoting large-scale agriculture and investment in agro-processing.

The Minister led a team of engineers to assess the proposed location of the bridge and some critical roads, including Ekye Amanfrom – Takoratwene, Takoratwene – Dome, Takoratwene – Donkorkrom, and Donkorkrom – New Kyeiase.

Expected Outcomes

The completion of the bridge and road network is expected to have a significant impact on the local economy.

It will improve access to markets, increase trade, and create new opportunities for businesses and investors.

The project is part of President Mahama’s “Big Push” infrastructure plan, aimed at driving economic growth and reducing poverty in Ghana.
