Renowned Ghanaian musician Martin King Arthur, popularly known as Kofi Kinaata, has been honoured with the ‘Youth in Entertainment Award’ by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in recognition of his exceptional contribution to social transformation through music.

The award was presented on Friday, May 9, 2025, at a grand ceremony held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi as part of the Otumfuo Millennium Excellence Awards.

Kofi Kinaata, a three-time Songwriter of the Year winner at the Ghana Music Awards, is celebrated for his socially conscious lyrics and music that often addresses real-life issues such as morality, personal responsibility, education, and poverty.

He won the Songwriter of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards on Saturday again.

His work resonates deeply with Ghanaian youth and the general public, and he has often been described as a moral voice in the entertainment industry.

This recognition from the Manhyia Palace comes months after Otumfuo Osei Tutu II publicly praised Kinaata’s hit song Susuka, describing it as “full of wisdom” during the General Conference of the Ghana Bar Association in September 2024.

The monarch’s citation at the time acknowledged the musician’s role in educating the youth and fostering critical reflection through his art.

The Otumfuo Millennium Excellence Awards is a prestigious national initiative that celebrates individuals whose work has significantly contributed to Ghana’s development, particularly in uplifting the underprivileged and marginalized.

The awards span various sectors including business, health, education, and entertainment.

At this year’s event, other honourees included prominent business figures such as Dr. Osei Kwame Despite, CEO of the Despite Group of Companies; Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong, CEO of Special Ice Water; and Dr. Nick Danso, CEO of Ghana Link Network Services.

These individuals were recipients of the Lifetime Africa Achievement Prize.

President John Mahama graced the occasion as the Special Guest of Honour, underscoring the importance of recognizing excellence across sectors for national progress.

Kinaata’s recognition also comes on the eve of the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards, where he is nominated in several major categories.

These include Best Highlife Artiste of the Year, Best Highlife Song of the Year, Best Music Video of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Record of the Year, and Album/EP of the Year.

From his early days as a young artiste from Effiakuma in the Western Region to becoming a household name in Ghanaian music, Kinaata has consistently used his platform to champion issues of social justice, youth empowerment, and cultural preservation.
