Golden Kick FC’s remarkable MTN FA Cup campaign continues to defy expectations, as the lower-tier side stormed into the final of the 2024/25 edition with a commanding 3-1 victory over fellow Division One underdogs, Attram De Visser, in a high-stakes semifinal clash at the T&A Stadium in Tarkwa on Saturday.
The match was billed as a showdown between two of the competition’s giant-slayers. Both Golden Kick and Attram De Visser had carved dramatic paths to the last four, eliminating several Premier League clubs along the way, including Ghanaian giants Hearts of Oak.
With both sides hoping to make their first-ever appearance in an FA Cup final, tension and ambition were high.
Golden Kick, coached by the tactically astute Kwame Ofori, came out of the blocks with intense energy and took an early lead just 16 minutes into the game.
The breakthrough came via a defensive mishap as Attram De Visser’s Dawuud Ishaque inadvertently turned the ball into his own net under pressure.
The momentum stayed with Golden Kick, and within six minutes, they doubled their advantage. David Amuzu finished off a swift attacking move with precision, sending their traveling supporters into a frenzy and placing Attram De Visser firmly on the back foot.
Attram De Visser struggled to regain composure as Golden Kick controlled the midfield and dictated the tempo.
Any hopes of a second-half comeback were crushed almost immediately after the restart when Golden Kick struck again—this time through Bless Ege, who lashed home a third goal in the 47th minute after yet another incisive team move.
Despite a late goal by Attram De Visser’s Precious Yaw Gyimah in the 87th minute, it was too little, too late.
Golden Kick held firm to secure one of the most significant wins in the club’s history and become the first Division One side since Nania FC in 2011 to reach the FA Cup final.
This victory marks a turning point for the Accra-based club, which has been steadily climbing the ranks of Ghanaian football under new investment and management strategies focused on youth development and tactical discipline.
Golden Kick FC will now await the winner of the other semifinal fixture between two Premier League powerhouses, Asante Kotoko and Berekum Chelsea, to determine their opponent in the final.
Regardless of the result in the other semifinal, Golden Kick’s journey to the final has already become one of the standout stories of this year’s Ghanaian football season—an inspirational run that has reinvigorated interest in Division One football and proved that ambition and preparation can triumph over pedigree.
