Ghanaian musician Kwaw Kese aka Abodam has expressed outrage over a recent incident where he was stopped and searched by police officers near Spintex Road on June 5, 2025.
According to Kwaw Kese, the officers thoroughly searched his vehicle for about 30 minutes, seemingly looking for evidence of illicit substances.
This isn’t Kese’s first brush with the law. In December 2014, he was arrested in Kumasi for publicly smoking an illegal substance and later sentenced to a day’s imprisonment and fined GH¢1,200 in April 2015.
Kwaw Kese has since claimed that his arrest was discriminatory, citing instances where foreigners were let off the hook for similar offenses.
Reaction
Sharing his frustration on Instagram, Kese questioned the police’s justification for the search, wondering why he would be stopped and searched in public if he weren’t carrying any illicit substances.
“How can the Ghana Police stop and search me by the roadside in full view of passersby? You were praising me while simultaneously searching through my clothes in public.”
“Why would I carry an illegal substance on myself and allow you to disgrace and arrest me on the street? What kind of nonsense is that?” he lamented.
Compensation
This incident comes after Kese announced plans to seek $1 million in compensation from the Ghana Police for his previous arrest and conviction, citing the negative impact on his reputation and career.
He argues that the police’s actions were unjust and that he deserves compensation for the ordeal.
