Former Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey, has raised concerns over the delay in hosting a fashion show promised by President John Mahama as part of the Blackstar Experience.

The event was initially scheduled to take place in July, with the President himself expected to walk the runway.

During the launch of the Blackstar Experience on May 1, 2025, President Mahama announced the fashion show, highlighting his commitment to promoting Ghanaian fashion.

He even promised to change outfits three times and walk on the catwalk, showcasing designs by Ghanaian tailors.

Concern

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Okraku-Mantey expressed surprise over the silence surrounding the event’s postponement or cancellation.

He noted that if he were in office, tongues would be wagging, implying that there would be significant backlash.

The Black Star Experience

The Black Star Experience is a government initiative aimed at showcasing Ghana’s arts, culture, and creative industry to a global audience.

The proposed fashion show was one of the highlights of this initiative, which promises to redefine and affirm the Ghanaian identity, attract investments, create new jobs, and increase tourism.

No official communication has been issued on the status of the fashion show, leaving many wondering if it has been postponed or cancelled.
