25 Agona Swedru SHS Final-Year Students Sacked Over Gay Fight

The Agona Swedru Senior High School in the Central Region has been rocked by a disciplinary crisis after 25 final-year students were suspended indefinitely over a violent altercation linked to a same-sex relationship proposal.

According to school authorities, the incident began when a male student allegedly expressed romantic interest in another male student.

The proposal was reportedly declined, but instead of ending there, it spiralled into a plot, retaliation, and eventually, a full-blown brawl.

Sources say the student who rejected the proposal shared the matter with his peers, who allegedly advised him to accept the proposal under false pretences and lure the other student into an ambush.

On the agreed day, a group of students — believed to be friends of the student who was approached — attacked the one who made the proposal.

The situation did not end with that assault. The victim of the ambush reportedly mobilised his dormitory mates in a reprisal attack, triggering a violent confrontation between the two groups.

The clash spread quickly, forcing school authorities to intervene.

Headmistress Golda Esi Andam confirmed that all 25 students identified in the fight were given a hearing before the school board.

She stressed that while the disciplinary action was severe, the students’ right to complete their education remained intact.

“They will still sit for their final West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), but this time under the watch of their parents,” Andam stated.

“This should be a clear reminder that the Ghana Education Service does not compromise on its code of conduct.”
