Asante Kotoko are gearing up for a strong showing in the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup, with Communications Director Samuel Sarfo Duku emphasizing that the club’s ambition goes beyond mere participation.
The Porcupine Warriors qualified for the continental tournament after winning last season’s FA Cup and will face Nigerian side Kwara United in the preliminary round.
Fixtures
The first leg of the tie will be played at the Accra Sports Stadium between September 19 and 21, with the return fixture scheduled in Nigeria from September 26 to 28.
Sarfo Duku stressed that despite Kwara United being a formidable opponent, Kotoko is determined to advance and make a lasting impact.
“We are a football giant in Africa, and we are just not going to participate in the competition,” he said.
Restoring Pride
Kotoko’s participation in the CAF Confederation Cup could play a pivotal role in restoring the reputation in club football.
The team’s administration and technical staff are expected to enhance the club during the next transfer window to improve their chances on the continental stage.
Squad Overhaul
Asante Kotoko has begun a major squad overhaul, parting ways with key players, including club captain Justice Blay, goalkeeper Frederick Asare, and Nigerian striker Fernando Wisdom Bassey.
The club aims to rebuild a competitive squad capable of challenging both domestically and on the continental stage.
Player Confidence
Striker Kwame Opoku expressed confidence in the team’s ability to make an impact in the CAF Confederation Cup, citing their glorious feat in the 2025 Champion-of-Champions where they defeated GoldStars.
Opoku believes that with mental and physical preparation, Kotoko can have a prosperous journey in Africa.
