The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has seized a substantial shipment of prohibited drugs at the Tweapease Police barrier on the Obuasi-Dunkwa Highway.

The operation, conducted on February 13, 2026, led to multiple arrests and the confiscation of cash allegedly intended to bribe law enforcement officers.

The intercepted consignment consisted of:

257 packs of 50mg Tramadol

58 packs of 250mg Tramadol, locally referred to as “Red”

58 packs of 225mg Tapentadol, also known as “Royal”

The drugs were discovered inside two sealed brown boxes concealed on a red OA Kia Grandbird bus bound for Ayamfuri, near Dunkwa-On-Offin in the Central Region.

Upon searching the vehicle, police arrested the driver, 37-year-old Joseph Nkrumah, who reportedly identified the owner of the shipment as Perpetual, a resident of Ayamfuri.

The investigation intensified the following day, February 14, when Perpetual, along with three associates—Diana Mensah (40), Abena Neyea (43), and Nana Akua (35)—arrived at the Tweapease barrier attempting to bribe officers with a cash payment of GHS 50,000.

The Police immediately confiscated the money and placed all four individuals under arrest for further investigation. The seized cash is being retained as evidence.

The suspects are scheduled to appear in court on February 16, 2026, to face charges under the Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851), specifically relating to the prohibited sale of drugs, herbal medicinal products, cosmetics, medical devices, and other household chemical substances.

Deputy Commissioner of Police and Regional Commander, Joseph Hammond Nyaaba, issued a stern warning to criminal elements operating in the region: the Ashanti South terrain will remain hostile to illegal traders, and law enforcement will continue to pursue and apprehend offenders.
