The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has publicly expressed shock and sorrow over the terrorist attack in Titao, northern Burkina Faso, which claimed the lives of several Ghanaian tomato traders and injured others on Saturday, February 14, 2026.

In a statement, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, NPP flagbearer, conveyed heartfelt condolences to the families of those killed and extended best wishes to the survivors recovering from their injuries.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized that Ghanaian traders must not face such life-threatening dangers while conducting legitimate trade.

He called on the government to strengthen intelligence collaboration with neighboring countries to ensure the safety of Ghanaians operating abroad, particularly in volatile regions such as northern Burkina Faso.

The NPP also urged that the existing framework for preventing and countering violent extremism and terrorism be reinforced.

According to Dr. Bawumia, proactive measures, improved regional cooperation, and strengthened early-warning systems are critical to safeguarding citizens and preventing similar tragedies in the future.

This statement comes in the wake of confirmed reports from the Ghana Embassy in Burkina Faso that multiple Ghanaian traders and truck drivers lost their lives in the attack, which security analysts have linked to Jama’at Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin (JNIM).

The NPP’s statement reinforces calls for decisive government action to protect Ghanaian citizens engaged in cross-border trade across the increasingly unstable Sahel region.

Ghanaian traders, especially those in northern markets, continue to face heightened risks, underscoring the urgent need for collaborative regional security efforts and robust mechanisms to shield citizens from extremist violence while maintaining vital economic ties.
