The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has congratulated newly elected regional executives following the successful completion of the party’s regional executive election across the country.
In a statement issued by his Communications Directorate on Sunday, August 16, 2026, Dr Bawumia described the peaceful conduct of the elections as a demonstration of the NPP’s commitment to internal democracy and respect for the will of its members.
The regional election, held on Saturday, August 15, saw delegates across the country electing executive who will be responsible for steering the party’s activities at the regional level as the NPP begins preparations for the 2028 presidential and parliamentary election.
Dr Bawumia said he was confident that the newly elected executive would provide the leadership required to strengthen the party’s structures and position the NPP for victory in the next general election.
He further commended all the candidates who offered themselves to serve the party, irrespective of the outcome of the various contests.
According to the statement, the former Vice President also urged candidates who were unsuccessful in the election to put the contests behind them and support the newly elected officers.
He emphasised that the conclusion of the regional election should mark the beginning of a renewed effort to unite the party rather than deepen internal divisions.
“The regional contest is over, the greater task is unity and renewed energy to secure victory in 2028 and it begins now,” the statement said.
The call for unity comes as the NPP moves into another important phase of its internal reorganisation following the regional election.
The newly elected executives are expected to work with the party’s national leadership to strengthen grassroots mobilisation, improve coordination within the regions and prepare the party for the 2028 electoral contest.
Dr Bawumia’s message therefore places particular emphasis on the need for party members to move beyond the internal contests and focus on the broader objective of rebuilding the NPP and returning it to power in 2028.
