The Eastern Regional Police Command says calm has been restored at Larteh following disturbances that occurred during the Ahenease Odwira Festival celebration on Saturday, October 3, 2026.
The incident reportedly followed a confrontation between residents of Larteh Kubease and Larteh Ahenease, creating tension in the community and prompting police intervention.
According to reports from the area, police officers were deployed to contain the situation, with tear gas reportedly fired as security personnel worked to disperse the crowd and restore order.
There were also reports of gunshots being heard during the disturbance.
A chief was reportedly among those injured in the incident, with preliminary information indicating that he sustained a gunshot wound to the hand.
However, the circumstances surrounding the reported shooting and the identity of the person responsible have not been established.
In a press release dated October 4, 2026, the Eastern Regional Police Command confirmed that it had restored calm at Larteh following the disturbances.
The Police said it has subsequently deployed additional personnel to the town to strengthen security and maintain peace and order.
The Command further disclosed that it is engaging various stakeholders in an effort to sustain peace in Larteh and prevent further escalation.
The Police also issued a warning that individuals who breach the peace would be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.
