A devastating accident occurred on the Cape Coast-Accra highway on Monday, September 15, 2025, resulting in the deaths of five persons, with 12 others injured.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded swiftly to the distress call at Wakrom Junction near Yamoransa, where a collision between a DAF Truck loaded with 700 bags of rice and a Toyota Hiace passenger vehicle occurred.
GNFS Response
The GNFS rescue team arrived at the scene at 2:59 p.m. and found multiple victims trapped in the wreckage.
They quickly extricated five victims, four of whom were pronounced dead at the hospital, while one critically injured victim is receiving treatment.
Additionally, 12 passengers were rescued and rushed to the hospital before the GNFS team arrived, with one later confirmed dead.
In total, the crash resulted in 17 casualties; five dead and 12 injured.
The driver and mate of the DAF Truck escaped unhurt.
The GNFS stated that the incident caused heavy traffic on the busy highway as emergency services worked tirelessly to save lives and clear the scene. Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
Unfortunately, this is not the first accident to occur on the Cape Coast-Accra highway.
On September 13, 2025, just two days prior, another accident involving a trailer vehicle loaded with bales of second-hand clothing resulted in one death at Nkanfoa junction.
