The Adentan Circuit Court has remanded social media personality Evans Eshun, popularly known online as Ebo Noah, into police custody and directed that he undergoes a psychiatric evaluation, following his arrest over alarming doomsday prophecies circulated on social media platforms.

Eshun, a 33-year-old private security guard, was arraigned before the court presided over by Angela Attachie after authorities concluded preliminary investigations into a series of videos he posted between August and December 2025.

In the widely circulated recordings, published on Facebook, TikTok and YouTube under the name @Ebonoah, the accused predicted an imminent global flood slated for December 25, 2025, claiming he was divinely instructed to construct an ark to save humanity.

Prosecutors told the court that the content, which spread rapidly across social media, caused fear and public anxiety, prompting concerns about national security and public order.

The prosecution maintained that Eshun made the declarations without any lawful authority and with the intent to mislead the public.

According to court documents, the Ghana Police Service launched an intelligence-led operation following public complaints and arrested Eshun on December 31, 2025, at Weija-Gbawe in the Greater Accra Region.

During investigations, he allegedly admitted in a cautioned statement to producing and sharing the videos.

He also clarified that the “ark” he referenced did not belong to him but was a fishing vessel located at a boatyard in Edina, Central Region.

Prosecutors further revealed that Eshun admitted his apocalyptic predictions were false, a revelation that formed the basis of the charge against him—publication of false news with intent to cause fear and panic.

Given the nature of the claims and concerns surrounding his mental state, the court ordered that the accused be remanded into police custody and subjected to a psychiatric assessment at a government-approved medical facility.

He is expected to reappear before the court on January 15, 2026, when the psychiatric report and further directions will be considered.

The case has reignited public debate on the misuse of social media platforms, the spread of misinformation, and the need for stricter enforcement of laws governing digital content in Ghana.
