Wode Maya Breaks Silence On Birth Of First Child In US

Ghanaian YouTuber and global content creator Wode Maya has offered a deeply personal account of the difficult journey that led to the birth of his first child with his wife, Kenyan YouTuber and influencer Trudy, in the United States—revealing that the decision was driven by medical necessity rather than lifestyle choice, and came at a huge emotional and financial cost.

Speaking openly about the experience, Wode Maya disclosed that the couple welcomed their baby in the US after medical complications made it unsafe for Trudy to continue her pregnancy under local care.

According to him, the decision followed professional medical advice and was not motivated by luxury, status, or foreign preference, as some critics on social media had claimed.

The content creator revealed that Trudy was under medical care in Ghana for the first six months of her pregnancy, but doctors later advised that she seek advanced medical facilities abroad due to complications associated with her reproductive health.

He explained that her doctor explicitly recommended the move, stating that better equipment and specialised care in the United States could improve the chances of a safe delivery.

“The doctor took my wife from one to six months and told me, ‘Maya, I have done my part. If the baby is born in America, maybe they have the machines,’” he recounted.

Following the recommendation, Wode Maya arranged for Trudy to travel to the US, including paying for business class flights to ensure her comfort and safety during the journey.

He admitted that the entire process was extremely expensive, describing it simply as having “spent a lot of money” to secure the best possible care for his wife and unborn child.

However, the decision quickly attracted public criticism, particularly from sections of his fanbase who questioned why a self-described Pan-Africanist would choose childbirth in the United States.

Wode Maya said he was attacked online, accused of hypocrisy, and pressured to justify his family’s private medical choices.

“People were saying, ‘Why did your wife give birth in America if you’re a Pan-African?’ People were attacking me,” he said, expressing frustration at the public judgment.

Beyond the public backlash, the story carries a deeper emotional history. Wode Maya revealed that the couple’s journey to parenthood was long and painful, marked by repeated pregnancy losses and medical complications.

Trudy reportedly has a heart-shaped womb (a congenital uterine condition), which made it difficult for pregnancies to develop normally.

According to Maya, this condition caused multiple failed pregnancies and required medical correction before conception could be successful.

“When the baby grows, the heart-shaped womb suppresses the baby, so you have to correct that. We had to correct it. It was insane,” he disclosed.

The couple’s struggle with infertility spans over five years, during which they reportedly experienced at least six failed pregnancy attempts.

In 2021, doctors allegedly told them that conceiving might not be possible, a diagnosis that forced them into a long period of emotional and psychological uncertainty.

Trudy later confirmed these struggles when she returned to social media to announce her pregnancy, after a long hiatus from public platforms.
