The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is in discussions with Austria for a potential friendly match for the Black Stars as part of their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The GFA Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, revealed that Austria is one of the teams being considered for a friendly fixture, following the Black Stars’ scheduled match against Germany on March 30 in Stuttgart.

The Black Stars, led by coach Otto Addo, are gearing up for their fifth World Cup appearance, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Ghana is drawn in Group L, facing Panama, England, and Croatia in the tournament.

Asante Twum stated, “Austria is one of the teams we are talking to play after the Germany friendly game, and hopefully, when the contract is signed, we will make it official to the public”.

The Black Stars’ World Cup schedule includes matches against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, England on June 22 in Boston, and Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.

The team aims to make a deeper run in the expanded 2026 World Cup after early exits in the 2014 and 2022 tournaments.
