Ghana Bracing For Cooler Weather: What To Expect

BY Issah Olegor

Ghana is set to experience a cooler season, with the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) forecasting cooler-than-usual conditions for July and August.

According to the agency’s latest advisory, the country can expect extended periods of cloudy skies, light rain, and misty mornings over the next two months.

Weather Patterns

The GMet attributes the cooler temperatures to stratiform clouds and cold maritime winds moving inland, particularly in southern Ghana.

This will result in slight to moderate rainfall, reduced sunshine, and lower nighttime temperatures.

Daytime temperatures along the coastal belt are expected to range between 27°C and 29°C, while minimum temperatures may dip to as low as 19°C in some areas. The Middle and Northern sectors may experience slightly warmer afternoons, reaching up to 32°C.

Impact on Daily Life

The GMet has advised farmers, commuters, and event organizers to plan accordingly, taking into account the potential disruptions caused by the weather.

Motorists traveling through hilly or forested areas are also cautioned to exercise extra care, as mist and fog may reduce visibility.

Health Precautions

To mitigate the effects of the cooler weather, the GMet recommends that the public takes precautionary measures, especially those with underlying health conditions sensitive to colder weather.

These measures include:

– Wearing warm clothing regularly

– Preventing respiratory problems

– Seeking medical help if symptoms persist

Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates closely to stay informed about any sudden changes.
