The Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Julius Debrah has announced the creation of a Presidential Delivery Unit at the Office of the President, a new mechanism aimed at strengthening accountability and ensuring that government commitments are tracked and delivered efficiently.
The announcement was made during a town hall meeting in Koforidua, where the Chief of Staff outlined the government’s renewed focus on performance monitoring as part of broader efforts to reset key sectors of the economy under the leadership of John Dramani Mahama.
According to Debrah, the newly established unit will conduct monthly reviews of promises and projects undertaken by government appointees.
The aim, he explained, is to assess execution levels, monitor progress, and ensure completion of initiatives in line with the President’s agenda.
He emphasised that the move is part of a deliberate strategy to align the work of public officials with the expectations of the presidency and the Ghanaian public.
“My duty is to ensure that every appointee under the government works according to the wishes of the President,” Debrah stated, adding that he will personally review reports from the unit each month to determine whether set targets are being met.
The introduction of the Presidential Delivery Unit reflects a growing trend in governance systems globally, where specialised monitoring teams are deployed within executive offices to track policy implementation and improve service delivery.
In Ghana, concerns over delays in project execution and unmet campaign promises have often dominated public discourse, making such interventions critical to restoring public confidence.
Debrah further revealed that teams from the unit will soon engage traditional authorities and opinion leaders across the country.
These engagements, he said, will serve as a feedback mechanism to assess the performance of government appointees at the local level and gather insights into the needs of various communities.
“Soon, some persons from the presidency will come to you, the traditional leaders, to enquire about the progress of appointees within your jurisdiction,” he noted.
The initiative is expected to enhance transparency and create a more structured system for evaluating government performance.
