Korkor Asante Tackles Healthcare Gaps With New Projects Across Atiwa West

BY DANIEL BAMPOE

The Member of Parliament for Atiwa West, Laurette Korkor Asante, has intensified efforts to improve healthcare delivery in the constituency with a series of interventions aimed at strengthening maternal and child healthcare and ensuring uninterrupted medical services in rural communities.

The latest interventions include the construction of a maternity, well-baby waiting and multi-purpose centre at the Akyem Akropong Clinic, as well as the provision of an ultra-modern power plant to the Awenare Clinic.

The projects, according to the MP, are intended to address some of the longstanding challenges confronting healthcare facilities in the constituency.

Over the weekend, Korkor Asante cut the sod for the commencement of construction of the maternity and well-baby waiting and multi-purpose centre at the Akyem Akropong Clinic.

The project is expected to provide a safer and more conducive environment for expectant mothers, mothers with babies and other residents seeking healthcare services at the facility.

The MP said the intervention is particularly important because maternal and child healthcare requires facilities that can provide comfort, privacy and appropriate conditions for mothers and their babies. The new centre is therefore expected to expand the clinic’s capacity and improve the overall experience of patients who rely on the facility.

The MP expressed appreciation to the District Health Director and her team for their collaboration in advancing the project. She also acknowledged the support of the chief, elders and residents of Akyem Akropong, stressing the importance of community participation in projects designed to improve local development.

She also handed over an ultra-modern power plant to the management of the Awenare Clinic. The facility is expected to provide a reliable alternative source of power to ensure that healthcare services continue even when the national electricity supply is interrupted.

The two interventions form part of a broader approach to healthcare development in Atiwa West, where the MP has increasingly placed emphasis on improving the physical and operational capacity of health facilities.

Rather than concentrating only on one aspect of healthcare delivery, the projects address different needs—from maternal and child health infrastructure to dependable electricity supply.
