Kumasi Asante Kotoko and newly promoted Debibi United have found themselves on the wrong side of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) disciplinary process after allegedly failing to meet a mandatory requirement following their opening fixture of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.
The two clubs have been charged by the GFA for allegedly failing to publish video highlights of their league encounter within the prescribed 48-hour period, potentially exposing both sides to disciplinary sanctions despite their on-field efforts producing an entertaining contest.
Kotoko and Debibi United opened their campaigns with a 2-2 draw, a result that handed the newly promoted Debibi United a valuable point in their first-ever appearance in top flight.
Kotoko initially took control of the match after Yakubu Dogo put the Porcupine Warriors ahead, but the debutants showed considerable resilience by fighting back twice to deny the Kumasi giants maximum points.
While the result was celebrated as an encouraging start for Debibi United and a disappointing opening for Kotoko, attention has now shifted away from the pitch following the GFA’s decision to initiate disciplinary proceedings over the delayed publication of the match footage.
According to the GFA, both clubs are alleged to have breached the league regulations requiring match highlights to be made available within 48 hours after the game.
The association has given Kotoko and Debibi United until Friday, September 11, 2026, to respond to the charges and explain their respective positions.
The clubs’ responses will determine the next stage of the disciplinary process, with the GFA expected to assess the explanations before deciding whether further action or sanctions are warranted.
