MTN Group President and CEO, Ralph Mupita, has concluded a high-profile three-day working visit to Ghana, reaffirming the telecommunications giant’s commitment to expanding its digital footprint and strengthening infrastructure across the country.
The visit, described by industry analysts as a major signal of confidence in Ghana, coincided with MTN Ghana’s formal elevation to the status of a major subsidiary within the MTN Group, highlighting the market’s growing strategic importance.
Speaking to the media, Mupita announced plans to inject US$1.1 billion into Ghana over the next three years, marking a significant acceleration in the company’s capital expenditure compared to the US$1 billion invested over the past five years.

“This acceleration demonstrates that Ghana remains a material operation for the Group,” he said, emphasizing that the investment will support robust infrastructure, improved service delivery, and network resilience.
During his visit, Mupita engaged with key stakeholders across public institutions, including the Bank of Ghana, Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), and the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations. Discussions focused on deepening collaboration between MTN and governmental bodies to advance national development, expand digital solutions, and leverage technology to drive economic growth.

MTN Ghana’s Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Blewett, highlighted the company’s ambitious network expansion plans. According to Blewett, MTN Ghana will roll out at least 500 new network sites by the end of 2026—a massive scale-up compared to 50 sites built in 2025 and just 25 to 30 sites in 2024.
“We are moving to 500 sites in a single year to deliver better quality of service to our customers,” he said, signaling a major leap in MTN’s infrastructure footprint.

The Group CEO also met MTN Ghana’s leadership team and employees, reiterating the company’s confidence in the business and laying out expectations for the year ahead.
His engagements underscored a continued focus on customer experience, digital innovation, youth empowerment, and sustainable growth, aligning with the Group’s broader strategic agenda under Ambition 2025: Leading Digital Solutions for Africa’s Progress.
Ebenezer Asante, Senior Vice President of MTN Group, emphasized the importance of partnership with government and regulatory agencies.
